About the Club
Keller ISD Varsity Bass Team is associated with the Texas High School Bass Association (THSBA). Our anglers are from all of the high schools in the Keller Independent School District (KISD), Birdville and Richland High Schools Birdville Independent School District (BISD) and we fish in the Metroplex division in many of the lakes across our region.
Keller ISD Varsity Bass Team was founded in early 2015, but despite our young age, we are fishing at the top of our game. Keller ISD Varsity Bass Team is the THSBA West division School of the Year champion for the 2016/2017, 2017/2018 along with the THSBA Metroplex 2022/2023 season. That means that our anglers consistently fished better than the other schools in our division, and that's a proud accomplishment that each of our anglers can claim on their fishing resume.
We fish against other high schools in the Metroplex division of THSBA. There are typically about 200 teams competing in our tournaments from schools all around us. We provide anglers with a professionally run tournament experience, from launch to weigh-in. Our anglers fish tournaments with solo or two-angler teams, and each team can bring a maximum of 5 fish to the scales.
While our anglers do also compete against each other during the year, our team is also competing against other teams. At the end of the five open tournaments, the top 40% of our division will compete in the THSBA Regional tournament. The top 30% of the Regional tournament will have a chance to fish in the THSBA State Championship where we will fish against the top teams from all nine regions across the state of Texas. Anglers have the ability to win scholarship money from the THSBA. Last year, the THSBA gave away over $40,000 in scholarship money!
In addition to fishing tournaments, our anglers have an opportunity to give back to the community through community events planned by our team. For example, we have anglers that volunteer to help with Keller Fish-for-Fun events. Our anglers help younger anglers that have never fished before to learn how to set up fishing rods and tie on hooks, bobbers and how to properly bait hooks. Events like this instill a sense of community responsibility in our anglers, and we feel it's an important facet to our sport.
