Keller ISD Varsity Bass Team is associated with the Texas High School Bass Association (THSBA). Our anglers are from all of the high schools in the Keller Independent School District (KISD), and we fish in the West division in many of the lakes across our region.
Keller ISD Varsity Bass Team was founded in early 2015, but despite our young age, we are fishing at the top of our game. Keller ISD Varsity Bass Team is the THSBA West division School of the Year champion for the 2016/2017 season and for the 2017/2018 season. That means that our anglers consistently fished better than the other schools in our division, and that's a proud accomplishment that each of our anglers can claim on their fishing resume.
We fish against other high schools in the West division of THSBA. There are typically about 275 teams competing in our tournaments from schools all around us. We provide anglers with a professionally run tournament experience, from launch to weigh-in. Our anglers fish tournaments in two-angler teams, and each team can bring a maximum of 5 fish to the scales.
While our anglers do also compete against each other during the year, our team is also competing against other teams. At the end of the season, the top 40% of our division will have a chance to fish in the division championship where we will fish against the top teams from other regions. The top 40% from the division championship will go on the fish the state championship. Anglers have the ability to win scholarship money from the THSBA. Last year, the THSBA gave away over $40,000 in scholarship money!
In addition to fishing tournaments, our anglers have an opportunity to give back to the community through community events planned by our team. For example, we recently held a fishing outing with a group from Starla Center, a community center for people with special needs. Our anglers were able to provide the wonderful people from Starla Center with an evening of pond fishing and a hot dog dinner. It was an evening that made a true impact on everyone there. Events like this instill a sense of community responsibility in our anglers, and we feel it's an important facet to our sport.
